Mable Denise Thompson was born to the late Richard and Estella Shaw on September 7, 1955 in Atlanta,
Georgia. Her Christian experience began at an early age when she joined the County Line United
Methodist Church. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1972 and continued her education at
Atlanta Area Technical School where she earned a certification in Computer Operations.
On June 19, 1976 Mable married the love of her life, LJ Thompson, Jr. and to this union two children were
born. Shortly after receiving her certification, Mable began her career with Railroad Support Services where
she remained for over twenty years. After retiring, she continued her hobbies of shopping and traveling.
In 1982, Mable joined Mount Gerizim Church of God Holiness under the leadership of Elder Amos L. Smith,
Sr. and now Elder Michael Smith. Mable served faithfully as Usher Board President and was an avid
supporter of the Sunshine Band and Youth Departments. Even in illness, Mable epitomized Colossians
3:23-24. “And whatsoever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, Knowing that from the Lord
you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”
Her kind-hearted spirit earned her the respected title of “Mama T” among community children and family friends.
Mable ceased from all labor on September 29, 2022 and is now beholding the face of her savior. She
leaves to celebrate the beauty of her life, a loving and devoted husband, LJ Thompson, Jr., with whom she
enjoyed forty-six years of marriage. She is survived by two children: Lionel Thompson and Nicole Kidd
(Reginald); three grandchildren: Khari Morgan, Reginald Jones, and Mekiah Kidd; and one sister: Ernestine
Willingham (Robert). She is preceded in death by her brother, Hollis James Morton. She also leaves her
closest confidants, Carol Clemmons, Angela Jordan, Regina Kidd, and Robin Smith to honor her memory.
