Sammy Davis Askew, affectionally known as Sammy Lee, Sam, hubby, papa, dad, and brother was
born on April 24 th 1956 in Atlanta GA to Doris Morgan Askew and Dewey George Askew. After high
school Sammy decided to proudly serve his country by joined the Marines and dedicating eight years
of service. Following his military career, he joined the Veteran Affairs team as an Environmental
Service Supervisor, where he worked until his final resting days. Sammy was selfless, kindhearted,
hardworking, and dedicated to every role in his life. He loved his family and friends and would do
anything for anyone he encountered on his journey. Sammy was proceeded in death by his parents;
he leaves behind his loving wife Sonia, son Sammie Askew Jr, bonus son Craig Duncan, puppy son
“Tiger”, sisters: Clara Horton, Kimberly Askew and Annette Walker, brother Larry Askew; sisters/
brother in love, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, supportive family, friends, fellow veterans, and
coworkers.
